Title

1942 10 2, Letter from 20th Century Fox to Waring

Description

20th Century Fox defends their motion picture, Little Tokyo, U.S.A. in a letter written to the lawyer for the American Friends Service Committ. Fox defend the depicition of Japanese spying (I believe this may refer to spying by Japanese Americans). The film company defends itself against a prejudiced portrayal of Japanese, by pointing towards a charcter, Japanese, who helps the detector uncover the plot.

"The picture is a perfectly legitimate story of the Japanese spying which everbody in this country, with the possible excpetion of yourself, now knows went on. So far as arousing racial prejudice is concerned, it seems to me that those of us who read the papers and have sons in the armed service are able to detect just a faint suggestion of prejudice against the Japanese since December 7, 1941. The fact that there are Japanese citizens of the United States who are loyal to this country is brought out in the picture; a young loyal Japanese is laying down his life in an effort to help the detective who is uncovering the plot."
