Subject
evacuation, Washington D.C., Robert Sproul, John Tolan, Cal Berkeley
Description
Robert Sproul, administrator of the University of California, writes to John Tolan, Chairman Selection Committee Investigating National Defense Migration (evacuation). Sproul agrees wit the report "Preliminary Report and Recommendations on Problems of Evacuation of Citizens and Aliens from Military Areas". He finds the report claiming the necessity for evacuation/ "migration" as convincing because of war time needs and whites' apprehensions. He finds Japanese Americans cooperative and and "make sacrifices cheerfully." He wants to limit future bitterness by making sure that future Japanese American leaders now enrolled in UC's continue their education at other colleges to maintain their loyalty to the U.S. and American values of democracy. He says that he has a plan to support such efforts if that would be helpful.
