Title

1942 Oct 18 Letter from Kay to Rev. and Mrs. Giles in Phoenix, Arizona

Description

A letter from Kay Yamashita to Rev. and Mrs. Giles, telling about her life in recent months (she was offered a job in Washington, DC, but the army wouldn't give her a traveling permit; she has now been transferred from Tanforan to Topaz). The main problems with the Utah camp seem to be that it had not yet been completed when the internees arrived and that it was overcrowded (8,000 people in one square mile).Letter ends with this postscript: "Unfortunately the Johnsons (I think that's the name of the people who took over your house and some of our furniture) did not come to see us while we were at Tanforan."
