1943 6 15 Letter from Kay to John and Tom

Dublin Core

Title

1943 6 15 Letter from Kay to John and Tom

Description

Kay describes arriving in Philadelphia, after having visited with Tom and John. (Repeat of Letter to folks on Notebook page 73-76, but contains more clear detail).  At first, Kay stayed in an elegant house with Trudy King.  Now, she stays in an apartment with Nobu.  She describes office people as grand.

Kay describes weather, work (processing new student applications from Camp, writing a weekly newsletter to Projects).  Some superiors are ignorant of conditions within Camps.  She works 40 hour weeks for $21.28/week.  Says that Phillie looks like "that Ginger Rogers picture."  Sales clerks don't give her a second look, and she can get good service at restaurant if not too busy.  Kay is thinking about living with Homer Morris in the suburbs, but decides not to.

Kay thought she was getting away from the "Yabos," but is surrounded by them.  Kay feels strain of cooking for people and entertaining Nobu's fiancee Yosh.  The WRA office is opening right next door to Kay's work.
