Title
1942 5 7 Letter from Kay to Folks
Description
A letter written by Kay (who is traveling by train with Tomi) to her family in Tanforan. Just arrived in Salt Lake City. (At this time she is unaware that her family will in September of this year be moved to a permanent camp outside Delta in Utah and may have travelled through Salt Lake City to get there.) She brought $17 groceries and encourages everyone to eat. Leila was busy with Student Relocation business. Kay spoke to Dr. Smith who has a general pass to all camps, and wants John and others to go to managers’ office to ask that they will be permitted to speak to him.

Dearest Folks
We're just about getting into Salt Lake - 1 ½ late - off schedule be there 10:00 p.m. - M.T. so they tell us we won't have much time in Salt Lake - perhaps 20 min.
Bought bunch of groceries at _ Louis $17.11 worth - since Ish hadn't and wasn't - hope I got the right things - Please each one of you eat - and I mean eat before you go to pieces. Couldn't enclose butter because it would melt but tried to pick up butter substitute.
Beginning to see city lights.
I paid Ish for my telegram so we don't owe him a thing.
Leila was perfectly grand to me though she was terribly busy with Student Relocation business. Tom, don't worry with so many people working so hard I'm sure things will work out for you.
Had a long chat with Dr. Smith. John -he wants you and others to go to the manager's office and ask that you all will be permitted to see him - he says it'll be easier for him to get in though he has a general pass to all the camps. As for your questions I think he'll have answers to all your questions.
We're in Salt Lake now looks like worst part of town. Everybody getting off there'll be 3 left. Mom in gro_ eats like a horse __ sea sick and tired _
Will write more
