Description
A letter written by Kay, who is traveling by train with her mother, to her family in Tanforan. Kay describes seeing from the train a desolate wasteland in Nevada, miles of white salt in Utah, beautiful scenery and snow in Colorado, including the “feverish building of barrack-like homes”, which the porter whispers is to be used for a concentration camp. She is enjoying the special attention of the porter, seeing snow for the first time, and having the entire car for there of them while the next there cars are jammed with tourist pullman passengers, mostly Army and Navy men. They will arrive tonight in Denver where Toshi will meet them. [We don't know who Toshi is] Leila and Lilly Margaret gave Kay orchids and sweets when she left home.
